Arkansas’s Top Five Lazy Rivers

With the summer approaching and temperatures rising, you may find yourself looking for a cool way to spend a hot afternoon. The Natural State is home to some of the most picturesque rivers in the country, making it the perfect destination for anyone and everyone seeking out a relaxing getaway. So sit back, relax, and let’s dive into the five best lazy rivers Arkansas has to offer.

Go Floating This Summer in Arkansas

Buffalo National River

Buffalo National River is the go-to lazy river for most Arkansans, so it kicks off our list. As one of the last undammed rivers in the United States, it has a National River designation. That leaves its natural and pristine waters untouched. You’ve got over 153 miles of river for floating fun with friends and family.

Kings River

The spring-fed, 90 mile-long Kings River flows through the Ozark Mountains. The upper section is well known for its rapids and whitewater, but the lower section is far more calm and gentle. This section is surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery of the Ozarks, making it ideal for leisure floating.

Ouachita River

The Ouachita River starts at its namesake mountains in west-central Arkansas. Then, it flows over 600 miles before ending in the Black River in northeastern Louisiana. The length provides plenty of places to get some prime floating done, but the 10-mile stretch from Oden to Rocky Shoals is particularly beautiful.

Spring River

Spring River is known for crystal clear water, beautiful scenery, and an abundance of wildlife. A popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, the river is continuously fed by the largest spring in the state, Mammoth Springs. The river is accessible all year-round to paddlers and floaters alike.

Caddo River

While some parts of the Caddo River can certainly be a bit rough, there’s more than enough calm and peaceful stretches available, making it a perfect lazy river to relax in. A rather ideal float is between Caddo Gap and Glenwood. This section offers eight miles of relaxation, with long pools perfect for swim breaks.
