Arkansas Boat Insurance is More Affordable Than Ever

Last August, Farm Bureau® Insurance dropped boat insurance premiums on ski boats, cabin boats, bass and other fishing boats, pontoons, sailboats, jet skis, and extra motors. Safeguarding your watercraft is now more affordable than ever.

Why Boat in Arkansas?

Arkansas waters are special. Our largest lake, Lake Ouachita, is one of the cleanest in the country. The Buffalo River runs freely for 135 miles, as one of the few undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Northern Arkansas rivers brim with trout. A world record-setting 40-pound brown trout was caught in the Little Red River near Heber Springs!

Pontoon boats dot Greers Ferry Lake, which is also home to the World Championship Cardboard Boat Races each July. On hot days, Lake Hamilton is full of water-skiers, tubers, and pleasure-seekers, boating to Garvan Woodland Gardens. Some Arkansans even build their own boats.

What is Arkansas’s Boat Insurance Law?

A boat is a significant investment. It should be protected by insurance. Arkansas law requires $50,000 of liability insurance on all personal watercraft with a 50 horsepower engine or greater. Boat owners may be asked to produce proof of insurance by law enforcement at any time. Inability to show this proof could result in a $50-250 fine for a first offense, with fees increasing for subsequent offenses.

What Type of Boat Insurance Should I Buy?

Liability insurance covers you if your boat causes bodily or property damage to others. It doesn’t cover damage to your boat if a collision occurs due to your negligence. Our physical damage policy will cover any damage to your boat that occurs on the water, in storage, or during transit.

If an uninsured boater collides with your watercraft, you may face an uphill battle to collect damages. You may protect your vessel with uninsured boater coverage.

Policies with physical damage coverage will cover up to $100 for towing if your boat becomes disabled on the water. You can add an endorsement to cover longer-distance towing.

Protect Your Fishing & Water Sports Gear

How much do you invest in your rods, reels, and other gear? A fishing gear endorsement will protect your expensive equipment, and a boat equipment endorsement will cover anchors, oars, detachable motors, skis, and inflatables.
